Production index for transformative, extractive industries hikes 8.7% in Q1 of 2020

CAIRO – 7 July 2021: Egypt’s industrial production index for transformative and extractive industries, excluding crude oil and petroleum products, increased 8.7 percent, recording LE 183.1 during the first quarter (Q1) of 2020, compared to LE 118.98 during the same quarter of 2020, the state's statistics body said.

 

CAPMAS indicated that the activity of the petroleum refining industry and the manufacture of coke oven products contributed the largest percentage to the value of industrial production during the first quarter of the year 2020, as it amounted to 28.6 percent, followed by the activity of extracting crude oil and natural gas by 20.0 percent, then the activity of the food products industry by 11.0 percent of the value of industrial production without extracting and refining crude oil.

 

The value of production for the food products industry amounted to LE 39.2 billion for the first quarter of 2020, compared to LE 38.2 billion for the first quarter of 2019, with an increase of 2.4 percent, while it amounted to LE 30.0 billion for the fourth quarter 2019, with an increase of 30.6 percent, due to the high demand, according to a statement issued today, Tuesday.

 

CAPMAS added that the value of production of iron and steel, precious metals and metal foundries increased by 6.4 percent in the first quarter of last year and amounted to LE 30.4 billion, compared to LE 28.6 billion, and LE 26.6 billion in the fourth quarter 2019, marking an increase of 14.3 percent, due to the increase in demand to meet the needs of the market.

 

In its publication, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics indicated that the value of production for the beverage industry amounted to LE 7.8 billion for the first quarter of 2020, compared to LE 5.9 billion for the first quarter of 2019, with an increase of 30.8 percent, while it amounted to LE 5.6 billion for the fourth quarter 2019, with an increase of 38.2 percent, due to the natural increase in seasonal production.
