CAIRO – 20 June 2021: Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali al-Moselhy stated Sunday that internal trade composed 21.6 percent of Egypt's GDP in the first half of FY2020/2021 rising by 1.6 percent compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year.

The breakdown is 16.4 percent contributed by the wholesale and retail sectors while the remaining 5.2 percent are the share of the transportation and storage sector. The minister noted that the GDP itself grew by 5.2 percent in that period recording LE3.1 trillion (almost $200 billion).

Moselhy pointed out that the ministry upgraded five million commercial registries nationwide, and delivered - in collaboration with the private sector - training to 10 million workers in internal trade constituting 30 percent of the labor market. As a result, investments worth LE50 billion (almost $3.2 billion) were pumped into the sector over the past three years.
