CAIRO – 30 July 2020: Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Abul Gheit welcomed Saudi Arabia’s efforts to reactivate the Riyadh Agreement between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council, which was signed in November 2019.

“The mechanism announced by Saudi Arabia to accelerate the implementation of the agreement represents an important step towards a peaceful solution in Yemen,” said Abul Gheit.

Abul Gheit expressed his satisfaction with the stances recently taken by the Yemeni government and the Transitional Council to end the crisis in the southern regions. The stances aim to reach an appropriate settlement that would allow the restoration of stability and the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.

“The Riyadh Agreement represents an important step towards addressing the difficult humanitarian and social conditions in all Yemeni lands, especially in light of the health threats, and serious economic difficulties that the people of Yemen suffer from,” an official source at the Arab League quoted Abul Gheit.

The source further emphasized that the current stage requires all loyal people to uphold the national interest of Yemen and its people away from any party or regional consideration, and to intensify efforts to end the suffering of the people and achieve stability in all parts of Yemen.
