French senator hails Sisi’s local, foreign efforts to achieve stability

CAIRO – 13 February 2020: President of the Senate’s Culture Committee Catherine Morin-Desailly expressed the Senate’s appreciation of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s development efforts, in a meeting with the president in Cairo on Wednesday, the Presidency said in a statement.

Morin-Desailly, who headed a delegation from the French-Egyptian Friendship Group in the Senate, praised the president’s efforts on the foreign level, amid a disturbed regional situation around Egypt, saying such efforts have contributed to making Egypt a pillar of stability, security and stability in the Middle East and Africa.

She voiced France’s support to the efforts of the Egyptian president and state, according to the Presidency’s statement.

Sisi praised the continuous development of Egyptian-French relations and the growing coordination between the two countries in various fields. He also hailed parliamentary cooperation with France.

During the meeting, the president reviewed Egyptian efforts made to counter extremism thought and establish the culture of accepting others and adopting freedom of belief. He affirmed the need to fix religious misconceptions to prevent exploiting them to achieve political goals.

Concerning parliamentary affairs, Sisi referred to the significant role of the Egyptian women in the parliament and their active participation in parliamentary activities as well as in executive and leadership roles.

Morin-Desailly, in 2017, said that Egypt is a great and promising country that France needs to cooperate with for achieving stability in the Middle East.

In an interview with Osama Kamal on DMC channel, Morin-Desailly said that Egyptian-French relations are based on trust and mutual understanding. Paris can support Egypt in overcoming challenges and achieving economic reforms, Morin-Desailly added.

Concerning the terrorist attacks Egypt and France have been suffering from during the past few years, Morin-Desailly said; “Terrorism causes us to live in a state of emergency, but this should not affect individuals’ freedoms.”
