CAIRO - 9 February 2020: Speaker of the House of Representatives Ali Abdel Aal hailed all journalists in Egypt, affirming the Parliament’s support to press through the provisions of the constitution and promulgated laws.

“Without free press, there will be no free society,” Ali said in the plenary session held on Sunday to discuss a number of draft laws. He added, “Press [in Egypt] enjoys independence and it is mandatory to support free press as it is the guarantee to have a free society, so I salute all journalists.”

The Speaker praised the Parliament’s correspondents for reporting the house’s news accurately and honestly. “Some may think that I give press statements or hold press conferences, but I don’t. It is just reporters doing their work and reporting the Parliament’s news,” Ali said.
