CAIRO - 28 September 2019: The Nidaa al-Sudan (Sudan’s Call) meetings fostered by Egypt kicked off in Ain al-Sokhna on Saturday in order to reach an agreement on the political framework to be adopted by Sudan after ending the transitional phase.
Nidaa al-Sudan is a coalition of political parties, which are the National Umma Party, the National Congress Party, the Sudan People's Liberation Movement and the Justice and Equality Movement.
Chairman of the National Umma Party Sadeq al-Mahdi expressed appreciation for Egypt for hosting the meetings and congratulated the Sudanese people on what it achieved over the past period.
“We, Nidaa al-Sudan, assert our willpower to meet the [people’s] expectations to go through the next phase in a way that empowers Sudan to eliminate corruption created by the defunct regime and prepare for achieving peace, development, and democracy,” al-Mahdi said in the opening session of meetings that will end on Monday.
The political leader added that Sudan will need great support by neighbors and the international community.
Earlier this month, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok paid Egypt a state visit to discuss bilateral relations and present latest developments on his country’s political scene after the ouster of Former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir in April.
