YOKOHAMA - 29 August 2019: President Abdel Fatah El Sisi said Thursday that Egypt is seeking continued cooperation with the UN to deal with top-priority files of developing countries and fund the implementation of the 2030 sustainable development agenda.

Sisi was speaking in a meeting with UN Secretary General António Guterres on the sidelines of the seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD), currently held here.

Guterres greatly appreciated cooperation with Egypt and its effective participation in the different UN activities, said presidential spokesman Bassam Radi.

He praised Egypt's successful efforts during its current presidency of the AU, stressing that the UN is keen on cooperating with Egypt to entrench peace, stability and development at the regional level, Radi said.

The meeting took up efforts to boost cooperation between the AU and UN, with Sisi stressing that deepening the strategic partnership between the two blocs is a top priority to Egypt, the spokesman added.

Sisi and Guterres also discussed the latest developments at the regional level, particularly in Libya and Syria, Radi said.

The UN chief reviewed efforts exerted by the international organization to reach political solutions to those crises, Radi further said.

Guterres told Sisi the UN is keen on boosting cooperation with Egypt to maintain regional peace and security in the Middle East and Africa, Radi added.
