CAIRO – 2 May 2018: Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos stated on Tuesday that Egypt, Greece and Cyprus agreed that the delimitation of the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) will be carried out in full respect of the international law, according to Cyprus News Agency (CAN).

Pavlopoulos said that Egypt, Greece and Cyprus enjoy a high degree of cooperation, adding that “the three countries can, through their trilateral cooperation, prove that the major causes of war in our volatile region are not conflicts of cultures but lack of understanding.”

The three countries are setting an example of establishing dialogue and cooperation between cultures, promoting peace as well as economic cooperation, he stressed
Pavlopoulos denounced the statements made by Turkey regarding the Law of the Sea and the violations and threats against both Cyprus and Greece.

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi had a brief meeting with his Greek and Cypriot counterparts, Pavlopoulos and Nicos Anastasiades, on Monday.

The meeting saw several issues discussed, including relations between the three countries.

Also, the three presidents inaugurated the Week of Revival of Hellenism in Egypt during a celebration in Alexandria on Monday.

The celebration was presented by the Greek and Cypriot communities in Egypt, along with several officials and celebrities.

During the Week of Revival of Hellenism, the two communities’ members are expected to visit several historical and important places in Egypt, including Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Ras Al Tin Marine Base, the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate, the Greek Cemeteries, Alexandria National Museum, Cavafy Museum, the Monastery of St. Sava and the Arab Academy for Science and Technology in Alexandria.

Later, the two communities’ members are also expected to travel to Cairo and Giza to visit the Pyramids; then they will head to Sharm el-Sheikh to visit the monastery of St. Catherine.

Roots Revival Week is considered to be the first initiative of its kind, which aims to shed light on the heritage of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus. According to Egypt’s Minister of Immigration Nabila Makram, this program salutes everyone who once lived in Egypt and left a positive impact and a human heritage that still lives on. “People were always welcomed to come and live in Egypt and they still are,” Makram said in statements to media outlets.

Reviving the joint heritage of the three nations will also include producing a radio program that will include several testimonials and stories from officials, Greek and Cypriot community members, and experts in history and sociology.

The triple summit which took place in Alexandria is considered to be a part of the three leaders’ agreements during their meeting in Nicosia in 2017.
