CAIRO – 30 April 2018: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed Egypt’s commitment to support Yemen’s stability and urged the necessity of a political solution to the Yemeni crisis. Shoukry’s statements came after he had received his Yemeni counterpart Abdel Malik al Mekhlafi in Cairo Sunday.

Shoukry reviewed Egyptian-Yemeni relationships, noting that Egyptian medical and humanitarian aid to Yemen recently has proven the deep ties between the two countries.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry reiterated Egypt's support for the unity of Yemen, pointing out that there is no military solution to the Yemeni crisis, and calling for a comprehensive political solution to ease the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Abu Zeid affirmed Egypt's support for the efforts exerted by Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, stressing the importance of the role of effective parties involved in the Yemeni crisis to use their influence to convince the Houthi rebels and former Yemeni president Ali Abdallah Saleh to end the fighting in the Arab country.

On April 5, Egypt dispatched urgent humanitarian aid supplies to the war-torn Yemen under instructions from Sisi. In line with the president's instructions, Minister of Defense and Military Production Sedki Sobhi issued orders for sending a dozen tons of medicines and medical supplies to Yemen.
