CAIRO - 23 October 2017: Libyan army spokesman Ahmed al-Mesmari accused Qatar on Monday of smuggling terrorists and armed groups affiliated with IS from Syria to the borders of Libya, Sudan and Egypt.

He affirmed in statements to media outlets that Doha is persisting on financing and aiding terrorism in his country, adding that all of the remaining elements of the Islamic State (IS), the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda groups are gathering again in Libya and planning to form a new alliance to spread within the region.

Mesmari also accused Qatar of smuggling terrorists not only to Libya, but also to Sudan and Egypt. "Doha eventually is going to lose, and it will pay for its stubbornness and support for terrorism,” he said.

On October 2, Mesmari told Sky News that his government has documents proving the involvement of Qatari officials in crimes against the Libyan people and proving its support for terrorism. He added that they believe that Qatar is moving IS militants from Syria and Iraq to Libya.

Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain severed ties with Qatar on June 5. They accused Doha of backing groups such as al-Qaeda, IS and the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.
