How Egypt’s ‘Haya Karima’ achieves unprecedented development in countryside

CAIRO – June 10 2024: The "Haya Karima" initiative is the largest project undertaken by the Egyptian state to transform the lives of nearly 60 million Egyptians living in rural areas. This initiative aims to lift them out of poverty, ignorance, corruption, and decades of underdevelopment, which have been significant obstacles to achieving sustainable development and increasing economic growth rates.

 

A study by the Egyptian Center for Thought and Studies highlighted that the "Haya Karima" initiative was launched on January 2, 2019. It is part of the local development program for developing Egyptian villages, aimed at improving the quality of life for the most needy communities across the country.

 

It is considered the largest initiative globally in the modern era, often referred to as the project of the century for the new millennium and an Egyptian icon for the new republic. The project aims to redraw Egypt's map, distributing people and economic capabilities across all regions, addressing present problems and future challenges.

 

Alleviation in Rural and Urban Areas: Easing the burden on citizens in the most needy rural communities and slums in urban areas.

Comprehensive Rural Development: Comprehensive development of the most needy rural communities to eliminate multidimensional poverty and provide a sustainable decent life for citizens nationwide.

Improving Living Standards: Enhancing the social, economic, and environmental standards of targeted families and improving their living conditions.

Job Creation: Providing job opportunities to support the independence of citizens and encourage them to improve the living standards of their families and local communities.

Human Development Investment: Investing in the development of the Egyptian human capital.Bridging Development Gaps: Bridging development gaps between centers, villages, and their dependencies.

Reviving Shared Responsibility: Reviving the values of shared responsibility among all participating entities to unify developmental interventions in centers, villages, and their dependencies.

 

The initiative focuses on the comprehensive and inclusive development of Egypt's rural areas, aiming to provide sustainable solutions that address the root causes of poverty and underdevelopment.

 

By focusing on the holistic development of these communities, the initiative seeks to create a balanced distribution of resources and opportunities across the nation, ensuring that all Egyptians can benefit from the country's economic progress.
