181 villages in New Sohag developed under Haya Karima

CAIRO - 18 July 2023: A study by the Egyptian Center for Thought and Studies revealed that the new city of Sohag is one of the cities that achieved great development process thanks to the nation-wide Haya Karima Initiative is the largest project.
 
The New Sohag is one of the third generation cities, and hosts ongoing investments amounted to about 102 billion pounds, starting from mid-2014 until December 2022, where 181 villages were developed.
 
The investments were tapped into 6 axes that included: industrial complexes, transportation and communications, educational services, health services, housing and utilities, and social protection.
 
The nation-wide developmental initiative "Haya Karima" targets the villages of Upper Egypt. All the villages and governorates of Upper Egypt were included in the first phase of the initiative, bringing the number of beneficiaries to 10.3 million citizens out of a total of 18 million in the first phase.
 
The initiative covers, in its second phase, 52 centers comprising 1,600 villages with a population of approximately 21 million.
 
The government has allocated the state’s draft general budget for the new fiscal year 2023/2024 appropriations of about 139 billion and 381 million pounds, representing (1.2%) of the gross domestic product, allocated for the purchase of goods and services against about 125 billion and 600 million pounds, an increase of about 13 billion and 781 million. pounds, an increase of 11.0%.
