FM Shoukry says Egypt urges prioritizing political solutions to disputes in Africa

CAIRO – 18 March 2021: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry underlined, Thursday Egypt’s stance as regards prioritizing political solutions to disputes in Africa.

During participating in a virtual ministerial meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council to probe peacekeeping operations in Africa, Shoukry emphasized the need to provide adequate and sustainable funding for peacekeeping operations to ensure their success, as well as to promote the ongoing partnership between the United Nations and the African Union.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said that Shoukry underscored the importance of encouraging women's participation in peacekeeping operations, while paying special attention to the security and safety of peacekeepers in light of a noticeable surge in hostilities against them.

He added that Egypt is proud of its large contribution to UN peacekeeping operations, highlighting Cairo’s continued efforts in this regard that include the establishment and opening of the Cairo Regional Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping in Africa (CCCPA).

The top Egyptian diplomat noted that Cairo is looking forward to continuing work with various parties to establish peace on the African continent.
