CAIRO - 17 March 2021: The Egyptian Health Ministry said in a statement that it detected 640 new coronavirus cases nationwide on Tuesday, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 192,195.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 44 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 11,384.

As many as 322 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 148,089 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt has started its vaccination campaign in January, starting with the medical teams at quarantine hospitals, for being on top of priority groups in terms of vaccination.

The ministry then launched a website in order for citizens over 18 years old to register to receive the vaccine. The website is available in Arabic and English.

The campaign already started to vaccinate the elderly and people suffering from chronic diseases.
