CAIRO – 14 March 2021: Deputy Minister of Housing for National Projects stated Saturday that urban development in Upper Egypt recorded LE18 billion in the last three years.

 

The total cost of development projects that have been and are being implemented through the Ministry of Housing in Upper Egypt governorates since President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi took over in 2014 until now has reached LE 63 billion, according to Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Assem El-Gazzar.

 

El-Gazzar emphasized in a statement on January 5 that the state has paid great attention to the development of Upper Egypt governorates, in line with Egypt's 2030 vision, and to provide various services at the highest level, through the establishment of new cities, and the provision of land and housing units of various kinds. He clarified that this action aimed to meet the demands of all segments of society, provide investment opportunities, provide various job opportunities, implement drinking water and sanitation projects, and develop informal areas, in order to provide civilized societies worthy of our people in Upper Egypt.

 

He explained that the total investments in Upper Egypt governorates are distributed as follows (LE 13.2 billion in the housing sector, for the construction of 130,892 housing units – LE 389 million in the informal development sector to develop 94 areas with 36,869 housing units – LE 11.3 billion in the road sector to implement 931 km of national and main roads other than the internal road networks in new cities – LE 34.5 billion in Utilities sector to implement 271 projects to connect drinking water and sanitation services, and 1,654 projects to replace and renew existing networks and stations – LE 3.6 billion in the services sector for the construction of 412 service buildings).

 

He pointed out that the ministry worked in developing Upper Egypt governorates through three axes, the first axis related to projects to develop existing cities in Upper Egypt governorates, in order to implement housing units, service projects, road networks and facilities, while the second axis concerned the implementation of various projects with 8 new cities (previous generations), and the third axis relates to the implementation of projects in 6 new cities, from the fourth generation cities.
