CAIRO - 13 March 2020: The Health Ministry said in a Friday statement that 639 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 189,639.

Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 45 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 11,214.

As many as 511 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 146,434 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt has started its vaccination campaign in January, starting with the medical teams at quarantine hospitals, for being on top of priority groups in terms of vaccination.

The ministry then launched a website in order for citizens over 18 years old to register to receive the vaccine. The website is available in Arabic and English.

The campaign already started to vaccinate the elderly and people suffering from chronic diseases.
