CAIRO – 11 March 2021: The Egyptian Armed Forces Center of Medical Research and Regenerative Medicine signed Wednesday a cooperation protocol with the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology to establish the national project for Egyptians' reference genome.

The project will be executed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research represented by the academy, the Ministry of Defense and Military Production represented by the center, the Ministry of Health and Population, and the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology. That is in addition to more than 15 ministries, research centers, and NGOs.

The signing ceremony of the project – which will be accomplished by 2025 – was attended by prominent heart surgeon Dr. Magdi Yacoub.

The Egyptian Armed Forces Center of Medical Research will be the main research entity; however, it will partner up with a number of scientists as well as reputable Egyptian and foreign research entities, as indicated in a statement by the military spokesperson.

The goal of the project is studying the diseases Egyptians suffer from the most and devising optimum treatments.
