CAIRO – 8 March 2021: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi decreed the establishment of a foundation for European Universities in Egypt to host a branch for each of the Universities of London and Central Lancashire inside Egypt.

 

According to the decision, which was published in the Official Gazette on Monday, the headquarters of the new foundation will be in the New Administrative Capital, the state-owned news agency MENA reported.

 

In a meeting with Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar on January 28, 2021, President Sisi gave directives for accelerating the implementation of the information infrastructure to convert public universities into smart universities. The President also called for improving educational and research services in all curricula in those universities and developing inter-programs according to the future needs of the labor market, according to a statement from the presidency.

 

Six technological universities are in the process of being set in Egypt, announced Abdel Ghaffar in a meeting on February 18, 2021 with Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said to discuss details of the latter ministry's investment plan for fiscal year (FY) 2021/2022.

 

The new universities are located the cities of East Port Said, 6th of October, Borg El-Arab, New Luxor-Taiba, Assiut, and Sammanoud, he said, adding that these add to the three technological universities that have already been established in New Cairo, Quesna, and Beni Suef and which have already started receiving students. Also, three new public universities have been opened in Luxor, New Valley and Matrouh.
