CAIRO - 24 February 2021: Egypt has reserved in principle 10 million doses of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against COVID-19, shortly after the country has approved it, according to reports.

On Wednesday, Egypt has become the 34th country outside of Russia and third in North Africa to approve the Russian vaccine, said the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) on Wednesday.

The Egyptian Drug Authority has approved the emergency use of the Russian vaccine earlier this day.

Egypt on Tuesday received a vaccine shipment – consisting of 300,000 Sinopharm doses - granted by China to Egypt.

Health Minster Hala Zayed, in a press conference, said the country would also receive this month 8.6 million AstraZeneva vaccine doses.

Egypt is finalizing the vaccination of medical staff at quarantine hospitals, and will begin next week vaccinating high-priority citizens.

The registration to get the vaccine is done either online or at certain health facilities. Afterwards, citizens get informed about the time and place where they will receive the vaccine.
