CAIRO – 20 February 2021: Egypt’s Evangelical Church officially resumed public masses and daily prayers in churches across the country after being suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak, the church's head Andrea Zaki announced Friday.

The decision was taken during Zaki's meeting with members of the General Evangelical Council to review the latest pandemic developments, the church said in a statement.

All services will be resumed as of today, added the statement.

The Health Ministry said Friday that 610 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases to 176,943.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 49 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 10,250.

As many as 399 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 136,889 so far, the spokesman said.

Egypt has started its vaccination campaign in January, starting with the medical teams at quarantine hospitals, for being on top of priority groups in terms of vaccination.

Late in January, Egypt received 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine, the second batch to be delivered to the country after the China’s Sinopharm batch in December.

Speaking before the House of Representatives in February, Zayed said that Egypt received on that day the third batch of the Chinese vaccine.

She added that Egypt managed to strike international deals to import 100 million vaccine doses in 2021 thanks to its good relations with other countries.
