CAIRO – 2 July 2017: In a press statement on Sunday, the United States Embassy in Egypt announced the departure of Ambassador Robert Stephen Beecroft as he has completed his three-year assignment in Egypt.

Mr. Beecroft formerly served as the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and Jordan, assuming his Egypt post in February 2015 under former U.S. President Barack Obama succeeding Ambassador Anne Patterson.

Mr. Beecroft served in Iraq between October 2012 and September 2014, and in Jordan between August 2008 and June 2011.

Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas H. Goldberger, who has been in office since September 2014, has assumed the duties of Chargé d’Affaires to the U.S. Mission in Egypt.

Mr. Goldberger is a member of the Senior Foreign Service (SFS), comprised of the top four ranks in the Unites States Foreign Service.

Prior to his arrival in Egypt, Mr. Goldberger served at U.S. embassies in Baghdad, Tel Aviv, and several other missions in the region and in Europe.
