CAIRO – 1 February 2020: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has ordered pursuing touristic and archaeological projects across the nation in coordination with all the ministries concerned as part of the state’s plan to upgrade Egyptian archaeological sites.

President's orders came at his meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and Tourism Minister Khaled el Anani, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said on Monday.

Anani reviewed his ministry's efforts to provide a push to the tourism sector in 2020 at the structural and institutional levels through integrating the tourism and archeological sectors.

He also spoke about a project to set a database to register and document monuments, and reviewed efforts exerted to promote Egyptian tourism abroad in light of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

The minister also shed light on the museums that were inaugurated last year, as well as the role being played by the ministry to develop archaeological and cultural areas in Greater Cairo, and restore artifacts smuggled abroad.
