Egypt receive a new batch of Russian train vehicles in February - FILE

CAIRO – 28 January 2021: Egypt’s Railway Authority will receive in February a new batch of Russian train vehicles as part of the agreement signed with the Russian company Transmas Holding.

The new batch arrives via Alexandria Port, and includes 16 vehicles with dynamic ventilation system.

So far, 227 new vehicles have arrived with dynamic ventilation as part of the contract with the Russian company, Transmach Holding, to manufacture and supply 1,300 air-conditioned and regular vehicles.

The first batch of the vehicles arrived in July. The experimental trial of the model vehicle was conducted without passengers to ensure its safety. 

The cost of the 1,300 vehicles is €1.065 billion that are being funded in the form of a soft loan.

The agreement with the Russian-Hungarian alliance led by Transmachholding Company includes the supply of the 1300 vehicles within 40 months of the date of activating the signed contract.

The agreement includes manufacturing and importing 800 air-conditioned vehicles.
