CAIRO – 9 January 2021: Deputy health minister in Qalyubia governorate Hamdy Al-Tabbakh has died of coronavirus on Saturday, the Health Ministry said.

“Egypt has lost today one of the Health Ministry’s faithful leaders, who had served his homeland with full sincerity and dedication to work,” the Health Ministry cited Minister Hala Zayed as saying.

Zayed added that his efforts “had a significant impact on saving the lives of millions during the fierce war against the novel coronavirus pandemic”.

“He also managed to rid Qalyubia governorate of Hepatitis C with full ingenuity and vim within presidential initiatives in the general health field,” the minister added, mourning the deceased leader.

Zayed extended condolences to Tabbakh’s family.

Head of Egypt’s National Election Authority (NEA) Lasheen Ibrahim has died late in December after suffering for more than 20 days from coronavirus.

Ibrahim died in a private hospital, where he received treatment from the novel virus. He was buried in his hometown, Benha in Qalyubia.

Ibrahim had been the NEA head since August 2017, as per a presidential decree.
