CAIRO – 31 December 2020: As Thursday marks the deadline for submitting reconciliation requests on unlicensed buildings, the Ministry of Local Development stated it has collected until present LE16 billion in reconciliation fees.

The ministry is still processing the latest of the 2.6 million requests it has received. The ministry indicated that 23,516 contracts were delivered and 104,678 units were screened. The reconciliation fees are determined according to the size of the unit, and the price of the square meter is determined according to the income-level of the neighborhood.

Furthermore, 273,000 encroachments on state-owned lands spanning over 189.3 million square meters were eliminated over five phases. The ministry also restored 2.4 million feddans divided upon 219,800 plots allocated for reclamation.

As for buildings constructed on agricultural lands, 123,865 of those were demolished. Those lied on a total surface area of 7,305 feddans.

In 2017, the state launched a nationwide campaign to evict squatters and eliminate encroachments on state-owned lands. Earlier this year, the government allowed owners of residential unlicensed buildings located in areas compatible with the purpose to pay fees for the constructions not to get demolished.
