CAIRO – 29 December 2020: The climax of Covid-19 in Egypt will be in the last week of January, Dr. Waguida Anwar, member of the Supreme Viruses Committee at the Higher Education Ministry, told ON TV Monday.

Anwar said the main difference between the first and second wave is the rate of the spread of the infection, claiming that cases will not exceed 140,000 until the end of January. She added that in the coming period, Egypt may record 1,000-1,500 cases daily.

She reiterated that severe cases belong to those with chronic and respiratory diseases, and that children do get infected with the novel coronavirus.

The doctor continued to warn people that wearing a mask is a must, as well as practicing social distancing.

The Health Ministry announced that Egypt registered 1,359 new coronavirus cases on Monday, raising the total number of confirmed cases thus far to 133,900.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said that the death toll in the country was raised to 7,466 after 61 patients died from the virus over the past 24 hours.
