CAIRO – 8 December 2020: Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for African Affairs, Ambassador Sherif Essa affirmed Egypt’s support for efforts to rebuild Somali state institutions, during his participation in the opening of the 5th Forum for International Partnership with Somali, in Mogadishu on Monday.

 

In his speech at the opening of the forum, the Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs praised the progress made at the economic and financial policies level, calling for all aspects of support to be provided to Somalia to rebuild state institutions and restore security and stability.

 

Essa also praised the important and pivotal role played by the United Nations Mission to Support Somalia and the African Union Peacekeeping Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), stressing Egypt's continued support for Somalia through its current membership in the African Peace and Security Council or through bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

 

During his visit to Somalia, Essa met with the Somali Foreign Minister, Muhammad Abdul Razzaq. During the meeting, the developments in the Somali arena were discussed in addition to the regional situations in the neighboring countries and their implications on security and stability aspects in the Horn of Africa.
