CAIRO - 5 December 2020: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli attended Saturday the 13th Extraordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government on the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which was held via video conferencing, the cabinet media center said in a statement Saturday.
 
Madbouli participated in the session on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, it added.
 
During his speech, the Prime Minister stated that the summit requires more effort to be done to to preserve the momentum achieved regarding the Continental Free Trade Area, especially after  the negative effects of the Coronavirus pandemic. 
 
He stressed there is a need to continue to take effective and specific measures to ensure success for the Continental Free Trade Area, including agreeing on all technical elements necessary to fully activate the region.
 
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly added: In this regard, Egypt welcomes the efforts made by His Excellency President Mohamedou Issoufou, President of the brotherly Republic of Niger; To activate the Continental Free Trade Agreement, the Council of African Trade Ministers and the Ministerial Council of the Free Trade Agreement, which have been in permanent session during the last period. 
 
In order to accelerate the pace of agreement on the outstanding technical points, Mabdouly added "we assure Egypt firmly admit the importance of liberalizing trade between the countries of the continent, in a way that achieves the desired benefit of development efforts, which is reflected in our keenness to be at the forefront of the countries ratifying the continental free trade agreement, which was evident in our commitment during Egypt's presidency of the African Union in 2019."
