CAIRO – 1 July 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita on Friday during their participation in the 31st Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council for foreign ministers, held on June 30 and July 1 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Shoukry started the meeting, congratulating his Moroccan counterpart on his new post and wishing him great success. Shoukry has also reiterated his congratulation for Morocco’s reentrance to the African Union, emphasizing the significance of cooperation toward issues of common interest on both Arab and international levels, according to Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Ahmed Abu Zeid.

High on the agenda was the situation in Libya. Shoukry stressed the need to review all Egyptian efforts toward resuming political dialogue and resolving the current political crisis in the country. The meeting also discussed means of common African cooperation through the African Union’s organizational reformation initiative.

Nasser Bourita extended his greetings to Shoukry, emphasizing the significance of bilateral cooperation with Egypt on all fields. He added that the Moroccan king is due to visit Egypt soon, alongside a number of ministers, to discuss bilateral cooperation in a range of fields, including agriculture and renewable energy within the framework of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, the pan-Arab free trade zone established in 1997.

Shoukry also met with his Algerian counterpart Abdelkader Messahel on Friday, where the two ministers reviewed a range of regional issues and bilateral cooperation with Algeria.
