Attempt to smuggle 11M drug tablets in container thwarted

CAIRO – 30 November 2020: Ministry of Interior managed to thwart an attempt to smuggle 11 million tablets of Captagon drug inside a container in Damietta Sea Port as part of the efforts of the ministry’s agencies to combat crimes in all its forms.

 

The container was coming from an Arab country and heading to the port of another Arab country, passing through Damietta Sea Port. The amounts of the drugs were found hidden inside the container’s water filters.

 

A security committee was formed to inspect the container, and found 118 cartons, each one included a water filter with millions of Captagon drug tablets hidden inside.

 

The value of the seized drugs is estimated at L.E. 385 million. All legal procedures were taken in this regard.
