CAIRO – 10 November 2020: The New Urban Communities Authority declared exempting defaulters from fines if they pay overdue installments within a month from November 10.

The decree applies to the owners of residential and commercial units and land plots in new cities as well as costal chalets and villas. The owners who will be exempted are those who were notified of the cancellation of the contract between them and the authority, and whose units have not been sold to others.

In order to be eligible for the exemption, owners must first drop cases - if any - they filed against the authority.

In September, the New Urban Communities Authoriy allocated 81 land plots dispersed in 23 new cities for the uses of housing, schools, factories, hotels, hospitals, office buildings, commercial buildings, industrial services, and gas stations.

The breakdown is 16 land plots in New Cairo; nine in each of 10th of Ramadan City and New Borg Al Arab City; seven in Sadat City; five in each of New Damietta and New Sohag City; four in each of New Beni Suef City and Obour City; three in each of 6th of October City and New October City; two in each of Badr City, Sheikh Zayed City, Shorouk City, October Gardens City, New Fayoum City, and New Malawi City; one in each of New Obour City, the New Administrative Capital, New Menya City, New Nobareya City and 15th of May City.

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el Saeed stated in July that Egypt has started creating a number of 4G cities, taking the total number of new cities to 34.

In a report released in the same month, the ministry highlighted the 11th goal of sustainable development "sustainable cities and communities" and Egypt’s efforts to achieve it.

Saeed noted that new cities in Egypt went through different time periods; the first-generation cities during 1977-1982, the 2G and 3G cities between 1995 and 2010, and then the 4G cities as of 2014 till now.

The report mentioned some of the new cities, such as the New Administrative Capital, the New Alamein City, Salam Misr City, East Port Said city, New Nasser city, West Assiut city, Toushka city and the Damietta Furniture City.
