South Korea gives Egypt’s El-Salhya El-Gedida Central Hospital in Al-Sharqia medical equipment

CAIRO- 2 November 2020: Recognizing the importance of the health collaboration as an important facet for Korea-Egypt bilateral relations, Ambassador Hong Jin-wook paid a visit on Monday to El-Salhya El-Gedida Central Hospital in Al-Sharqia governorate to celebrate the handover of two medical equipment, Oxygen tank and CT scanner.

 

Ambassador Hong noted that the support came as part of the Korean government’s Official Development Assistance ODA worth $200,000 with the aim of improving the hospital’s capacity in providing quality health services to the public and contributing to its COVID-19 combating efforts.

Earlier in May 2020, the Korean government provided $200,000 cash to fund emergency health response activities with the outbreak of the COVID-19 in Egypt, which was the first cash support from a development partner country. In August 2020, an additional support of $500,000 worth of medical supplies such as test kits and medical face masks was followed.

 

Worth to mention that Korean companies have also expressed willingness to export to Egypt its needs of medical equipment and facilities to help combat COVID-19, as well as transferring their knowledge and expertise through participating in Egypt’s national projects in the health sector.

Prior to the handover ceremony, ambassador Hong had a meeting with Dr.Mamdouh Ghorab, governor of Al-Sharqia, and discussed economic cooperation between Al-Sharqia governorate and Korean companies. Ambassador added that Al-Sharqia governorate has a couple of major  Korean factories in Egypt, renowned LG Electronics in 10th of Ramadan, and  Seong-An, which exports “made in Egypt '' textile and provides around 1,000 job opportunities. Governor Ghorab expressed sincere gratitude for the support of medical devices and hoped that economic cooperation would expand.

 

Ambassador Hong pointed that these examples reflect the commitment of the Korean government to support vital sectors to the Egyptian citizens, adding to existing and diverse cooperation portfolios with Egypt that collectively contribute to more inclusive and sustainable economic growth.   

 

Meanwhile, Ambassador Hong, who was appointed ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt in July this year, has been making efforts to cooperate with the Egyptian government and to advance into Korean companies through visiting numerous governorates such as Al-Sharqia, Benisuef and Aswan which took place last September.
