CAIRO – 30 October 2020: An Egyptian military transportation plane took off from East Cairo airbase towards Iraq, carrying tons of milk and medicine, in support to people of Iraq, the Egyptian military spokesman said.

The Iraqi side, for his part, has thanked the Egyptian leadership, government and people and expressed appreciation for the Egyptian efforts made to support Iraq during times of crises.

The Iraqi side also affirmed that these aids reflect the spirit of brotherhood between the peoples of the two countries.

The aid comes as part of Egypt’s efforts to support countries in the region and alleviate the suffering of people of Iraq, the spokesman added.

Last week, the Egyptian Ministry of Health said it would dispatch a medical convoy including 24 doctors, as well 40 tons of drugs and medical supplies to Sudan within days, to back the country’s health system after devastating floods.

The ministry also announced the resumption of an air bridge between the two countries to transfer medical aid from Egypt to Sudan, to support the Sudanese people.

Egypt has sent medical assistance to Sudan since it has been hit by deadly floods causing many people to die and many houses to be damaged and leaving the country prone to epidemics.

Doctors from different specialties will be sent to Sudan, as well as paramedics, nurses and agricultural engineers, the ministry said.

The ministry sent 34 tons of pesticides and related equipment, along with a specialized team, to support Sudan’s health system, in light of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives, the ministry added.
