CAIRO – 29 October 2020: The Egyptian Public Prosecution on Wednesday ordered detaining parents who left their three-month old baby alone at home for several days until he died for 15 days over charges of premeditated murder.

The incident took place in Greater Cairo’s Qalioubia when the father reported to police the death of his infant. Police found the baby in decomposition state when they rushed to the scene, but no signs of torture were reported.

After investigation was launched, police found out that the father and the mother of the baby quarreled days before the incident and that the mother left the house, taking only her three-year-old boy with her.

Minutes later, the father went to his work and remained there for nine days, thinking that his wife has returned and took care of her baby.

On his way home after nine days, the man phoned his wife to find that she still at her family's house and that she did not return to take the baby.

Police examined phone conversations between the pair to find that the they cared nothing when they found out that the baby was left nine days alone without care.

Police contacted the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood to examine the conditions of the older son.
