CAIRO – 30 June 2017: The UN Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday unanimously adopted a resolution to extend the sanctions on Libya, including the arms embargo on the seas off the Libyan coast.

During an urgent meeting on the Libyan situation, the representative of Libya at the UNSC, Mahdy Saleh al-Mughrabi, urged the council to exclude the administration of funds from the sanctions imposed on his country.

He said in his speech before the UNSC that Libyan assets incurred significant losses due to the international sanctions, stressing the need to transfer funds from frozen accounts to allow investment.

Mughrabi added that these sanctions are wasting and destroying his country’s wealth, threatening the future of the Libyan people.
