Egypt's Dar Al Ifta observatory welcomes new policy of Facebook on banning hatred posts

CAIRO - 14 October 2020:The Islamophobia observatory of Egypt's Dar Al Ifta has welcomed the new policy of Facebook on curbing hate crimes especially those related mass killing and incitement.



The observatory's statement warned against the spread of hate crimes on the social media which involve incitement, sedition and discrimination against minorities.



It pointed out that the social media outlets are used by extremists to spread hatred crimes and terrorism, pointing out that most of extremists have criminal activities on the social media outlets.



It called on Facebook to expand its monitoring to prevent the terrorist organizations from sowing the seeds of sedition on the internet. 

 

The Observatory added that it takes a measure of development, arrangement, perception and courage to stand with impartiality to organize these sites in a way that guarantees freedom of expression and reduces the harms resulting from hate crimes and denial of mass murder.

 

In the words of Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, "According to the current global situation, drawing the right lines between what is acceptable and what is not acceptable is not an easy task, but rather we are trying to strike the right balance.
