CAIRO – 1 October 2020: After being updated on a national mega project to establish a large horse ranch in Egypt, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed the concerned bodies to focus on breeding pure and Egyptian-Arabian stallions, said Egyptian Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement on Wednesday evening.

President Sisi also called for studying the best location for the project, which titled Marabet Misr [Egypt’s Stud Farm], Radi added.

Sisi’s comment came during a meeting with Head of Armed Forces’ Logistics Authority Staff Major General Waleed Abul Magd, Director of the Armed Forces’ Department of Veterinary Medicine Major General Dr. Islam Rayan, and heads of investment groups specialized in breeding the Egyptian Arabian horses Mr. Hamdy Suleiman and Mr. Tarek Suleiman.

“The state’s efforts to regain the ancient Egyptian legacy regarding breeding the Egyptian Arabian horses and reviving the horse-related activities were presented [during the meeting,” Radi said.

The president was briefed on “sports and activities related to horses in accordance with the international standards, within a green space that will be the largest of its kind in the Middle East. The project is to be launched in partnership with the most prestigious international and local expertise and in cooperation with the largest global developers,” Radi said.

The newly-announced project would be established on a piece of 108 feddans (one feddan equals about 1.038 acres), head of Elzahraa -Stud Salah Fathy told Happens in Egypt talk show on MBC channel on Wednesday.

Elzahraa -Stud is the first horse farm in Egypt as it was established in 1928; it has now 490 horses including 5 rare strains worldwide, he added.
