Sisi directs government to enhance basic food commodities, boost strategic reserves in anticipation for any possible 2nd COVID-19 wave

CAIRO – 28 September 2020: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed the government to provide basic commodities and boost strategic reserves to be ready for any possible second coronavirus wave, said Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Radi in a statement on Monday.
 
In a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Minister of Supply and Internal Trade  Ali El-Meselhy on Monday, President Sisi was updated on the latest developments regarding the strategic basic food commodities over the coming six months, Radi said.
 
“The President also emphasized the importance of selecting the best locations for silos based on proximity to roads, hubs, and distribution outlets to facilitate their task in storing strategic goods. Taking into account the modern infrastructure that Egypt enjoys in this field nationwide was also underlined,” Radi said.
 
“The Ministry of Supply's plans to develop a number of food industry companies, especially ‘Qaha’ and ‘Edfina’ companies, were also reviewed, in order to restore their distinguished production with the aim of enhancing the value of the national product in the local market, increasing its competitiveness, and maximizing export opportunities,” he continued.
 
“The President also emphasized on developing the system of bakeries nationwide through automating the work cycle and modernizing logistical processes with the aim of improving product quality, reducing waste, and developing service for citizens,” he said.
