CAIRO – 22 September 2020: The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced Monday a major discovery of 27 painted coffins in an 11 meters deep well at Saqqara Necropolis, to be the biggest discovery in 2020.

Minister Khaled Anani inspected the discovery site and expressed his appreciation for the job done by the members of the expedition working at the archeological area despite the tough circumstances due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Ministry said in a statement that the discovered coffins were not opened since 2500 years, expecting to find more coffins in the well.

The statement said that an international press conference will be held soon to reveal the details of the major discovery.
