CAIRO – 28 June 2017: The UN delegation detained in Zawia city west of Lybia by a group of Libyan youth was released on Wednesday night, Abdellafy, a Libyan parliamentarian said.

Abdellafy added that the UN delegation members are now at the Libyan town of Sorman, a town near the Mediterranean coast, in the Zawyia District. Negotiations are now being held with the Presidential Council of Libya to transfer the delegation to Tripoli within two hours.

The delegation consists of four men and two women who are now on their way to Tripoli in the wake of their delivery to the Criminal Investigation of the Western Region.

“There is no relationship between the UN delegation detention in the Libyan city of Zawia and the Libyan detainees in Saudi Arabia. The UN delegation was released unconditionally, where no injuries were sustained among the delegation members” Abdellafy added in a statement.
