CAIRO - 21 September 2020: Egypt's medical mission to Sudan has conducted medical checkups on 12,654 Sudanese citizens since September 10, said Health Minister Hala Zayed on Monday.

The mission, which aims to deliver medical relief assistance to flash flood-hit Sudanese under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, comprises a galaxy of doctors, nurses, paramedics and agriculture engineers, said Health Ministry Spokesman Khaled Mogahed.

The minster directed extending the work of the mission for one more week till Saturday, upon a request by the Sudanese side, the spokesmen said.

Several Sudanese have been flocking to the mission's centers, Mogahed said, adding that the first day after the extension has witnessed 1,384 patients seeking medical checkups.

It is worth noting that an air bridge was launched between Egypt and Sudan last August, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to transport medical aid provided from Egypt to Sudan in support of the health system.

5 aircraft were sent to Sudan carrying 22 tons, 325 kg of milk, basic medicines for children and emergency medicines, in addition to 25 tons of relief medicines and medical supplies for those affected by the floods that swept Sudan recently, and any needs will continue to be sent to Sudan to support the health system.
