CAIRO – 31 August 2020: The Egyptian Public Prosecution on Monday said it has released on bail a woman prosecutor who appeared in a video on social media while insulting an officer at a court in the capital, Cairo, after knowing from her workplace that she is suffering from “psychological conditions”.

The bail worth LE 2,000 ($126), the prosecution said in a statement, noting that the investigations are still ongoing.

The woman, a prosecutor at the Administrative Prosecution Authority, was engaged in an altercation with a police officer, a lieutenant colonel at a court in Heliopolis district, as he claimed she was using her mobile camera inside the court, which he believes is illegal, and that she was not wearing a mask.

The woman in the video called the officer “garbage” and belittled him by removing his insignia, especially after he provoked her by snatching her mobile phone and ordering her to show her work cards or he would “throw her in custody”.

The prosecution in the statement said it interrogated the officer, who confirmed that he intervened when he saw the prosecutor using her phone to film employees while performing their duty. He said he notified her that this act is not allowed and that it is a punishable crime, adding that she assaulted him so he had to arrest her.

The prosecution also said it told the prosecutor about the allegations she faces, including assaulting a police officer while performing his duties and insulting him, but she denied the allegations. She added that she had to defend herself in the way appearing in the video after the officer started a jangle with her, snatched her phone and arrested her.
