Egypt's Sisi and Jordan's King Abdullah review developments in the Middle East peace process

CAIRO -25 August 2020: President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi met in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, the king of Jordan, according to presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi on Tuesday.
 
According to the statement, President Sisi thanked the King of Jordan for the good reception, praising the deep historical ties and fraternal relations enjoyed by the two countries at the official and popular levels.
 
Sisi affirmed his keenness to continue consultations with Jordan and to further enhance bilateral relations at various levels.
 
The president also appreciated the level of coordination between both countries on issues of common interest, whether on the bilateral level or through the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Iraq, and their keenness to promote joint Arab action in a way that would contribute to addressing the multiple challenges confronting the Arab nation at the current stage.
 
From his side; the Jordanian king welcomed President Sisi to Amman, expressing the appreciation of the leadership and people of Jordan for its distinguished historical relations with Egypt.
 
He also expressed his country’s aspiration to continue improving the existing cooperation frameworks between the two countries in various fields, especially in light of the pivotal role played by Egypt n the region and its efforts to consolidate stability and confront terrorism, in a way that serves the interests of Arab peoples.
 
The spokesman added that the meeting tackled ways to promote bilateral relations at various levels. It was also agreed to continue working on strengthening economic relations and increasing trade exchange in a way that would rise to the level of political relations.
 
The two leaders also reviewed the ongoing efforts to resolve the existing crises in several countries in the region, as it was emphasized to support the national institutions in these countries to contribute to achieving a political settlement, restoring security and stability to the peoples of the region, in addition to preserving their territorial integrity.
 
The meeting also witnessed a review of developments in the peace process in the Middle East, as well as joint efforts to combat terrorism to eliminate this phenomenon that threatens the region and the entire international community.
 
Sisi headed to Amman on Tuesday to attend a trilateral summit with the Jordanian king and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi. The summit, which is being held for the third time, is set to cover economic, trade and investment cooperation, as well as regional developments.
 
The first trilateral summit was held in Cairo in March 2019, while the second one convened in New York in September of the same year, on the sidelines of the current United Nations General Assembly meetings.
 
During the second summit President Sisi, King Abdullah and Iraqi President Barham Salih asserted their full support for the Palestinian cause as a central cause in the Arab world, adding the Palestinian people must have all their legitimate rights that include an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital in light of the Arabian initiative and the international agreements.
