CAIRO – 24 August 2020: Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) said Sunday it is closely following a series of testimonies that went viral on social media after being published in a private blog, the testimonies are for women accusing one man of raping and sexual harassment.

The NCW urged the women to report this man so legal action can be taken against him.

The NCW’s statement mentioned the steps to file a report directly to the Public Prosecution office by texting the Whatsapp number of 01111755959.

The statement also offered the psychological and moral support for those who survived the alleged sexual assault through the hotline 15115.

The Egyptian cabinet approved in July a legislative amendment on the criminal code that aims to have any legal prosecutor concealing the data of the victims of indecent assault, sexual harassment, corruption, and assault crimes.

The amendment seeks to have the victims of the aforementioned crimes not afraid to report the assault, a step considered to cope with the latest societal changes that curb targeting the perpetrators of such crimes.

The National Council for Women (NCW) then praised the decree taken by the government and thanked the Minister of Justice Omar Marwan who submitted the legislative amendment.
