CAIRO – 20 August 2020: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Thursday congratulated Egyptians on the start of the new Islamic year, saying it reminds us of Prophet Muhammad’s “great message of sincere intention, determination and faithfulness in building the territory and homeland”.

Today, Muslims celebrate 1442 years since Islam’s Prophet Muhammad -peace be upo him- migrated from Mecca to Medina, to save Muslims from torture by leaders of Quraish, an Arab tribe Muhammad was part of, and to protect the proselytism of Islam from being eradicated by disbelievers at the time.

“I extend my sincere congratulations to the Egyptian people and the Islamic nation on the occasion of the start of the new Hijri year,” President Sisi said, adding that it is a decision full of “great and noble meanings in our hearts”.

“I pray to God on this great occasion that this year be a year of goodness, peace, prosperity and stability for our beloved Egypt.”
