PM visits 5 facilities, public investments in Alexandria's Borg Al Arab

CAIRO – 5 August 2020: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli visited Wednesday Alexandria's Borg Al Arab District to check upon facilities and a number of public investments.

 

<b> Handball Court </b>

The construction works of a court that will house Men's Handball World Championship taking place on January 14-31 are completed by 95 percent. The stadium spans over 12.5 feddans, and has a capacity of 4,500 fans. The championship matches will be played in three more stadiums in Cairo, 6th of October City, and the New Administrative Capital.  

 

<b> Wholesale Marketplace </b>

The merchants of Hadra Wholesale Marketplace for Fruits and Vegetables – whose surface area is 13 feddans - will move to a new wholesale marketplace stretching over 24 feddans. The second phase of the project lying near Mahmoudeya Cannal Axis Road includes a logistic zone spanning over 74 feddans.

 

The first phase of the marketplace is finished by 85 percent. For wholesale, it consists of 10 hangars, and 200 shops. The surface area of each is 100 square meters, and each has an external area of 65 square meters.

 

As for retail, there are 13 hangars, and 208 shops. The surface area of each is 26 square meters with an external area of 10 square meters. That is in addition to an outlet, a packaging store, and two refrigerated warehouses whose capacity is 2,000 tons.

 

The marketplace also has office buildings, a building for the management of the establishment, police department, fire station, bank, post office, parking lot, restaurant, café, mosque, parking lot, and two generators with a capacity of 0.5 megawatts.

 

<b> Pharco B International </b>

The shareholding pharmaceutical company consists of four factories having 10 production lines. One is for producing cephalosporin antibiotics. Another is for manufacturing penem antibiotics and it is the only in the Middle East and Egypt. The third and fourth produce anti-viral drugs' effective material, and sterile solutions.

 

The factories are worth LE1.6 billion, and they produce 83 products. The annual sales value is LE1 billion, including LE56 million worth of exports. The establishments hired over the past months 95 individuals for the total to become 1,500.

 

Pharco B International also owns a factory that manufactures ventilators with a monthly capacity of 120 devices. Furthermore, the company is the franchisee of Novartis, Sanofi, Glaxo, and Sunny Pharmaceutical.

 

<b> Food Production Factory </b>

The prime minister visited Saqr Company for Food Industries located in the 3rd industrial zone and inaugurated earlier this year. The factory's surface area is 22,000 square meters, and initial cost is LE254 million. The new factory offers 400 and 1,500 direct and indirect job opportunities. The company targets exporting 45 percent of the production by 2025.  

 

The company was founded in 1986 with capital worth LE2 million, and now its value is around LE2 billion in addition to the assets. It runs seven factories manufacturing 150 products, and the number of staff is 1,300 providing 5,000 indirect job opportunities. The 2019 sales are worth LE2.2 billion. In 2020, exports to 73 markets grew by 66 percent composing 25 percent of production. The local component of products constitutes 80 percent provided by 250 suppliers.

 

<b> City of Scientific Research and Technological Applications </b>  

The city encompasses six research institutes specialized in genetic engineering and biotechnology; advanced technology and new materials; arid land cultivation; preclinical studies of drugs; and Cloud HPC.

 

The city also houses five central laboratories specialized in educational services and environmental evaluation; properties of physical and mechanical substances; precise and crystalline composition of materials; chemical and biological analyses; and analytical measurements.

 

The city offers its services to both the public and private sectors, including solutions for the industrial sector.

 

<b> Egyptian-Japanese University </b>

Over the past two years, 43 research projects at the university received international patents. The university having partnerships with 15 Japanese universities has three schools. The school of engineering has the departments of electronics and telecommunications; computer science and engineering; electricity; industrial engineering; mechatronics and robotics; materials science and engineering; chemical engineering; energy resources engineering; and, environmental engineering.

 

The school of basic and applied science consists of the departments of computational and applied mathematics; biotechnology; nanotechnology; and energy materials. The school of international business and humanities is composed of three departments specialized in human resources; accounting; and heritage studies.
