CAIRO – 23 July 2020: The Ministry of Interior has arrested a terrorist cell in Alexandria over producing fabricated videos on Egypt, as part of the efforts to reveal hostile plans by terrorist Brotherhood organization.
The intelligence department at the National Security sector spotted that leaders of the outlawed organization, who are at large outside the country, have assigned a number of Brotherhood members to implement a plan aiming to spread rumors amid preparations for the senate elections, according to a statement by the Ministry of Interior.
The terrorist cell published false news on the internal situation in the country and state institutions, through the internet and pro-Brotherhood satellite channels abroad.
The Brotherhood members involved in the plan were identified as follows: the terrorist Emad el-Beheiry, Hossam el-Shorbagy, Sayed Tawakol and Hamza Zawba’a. They are at large in Turkey.
The intelligence department revealed that the terrorists involved in the scheme used a housing unit in Alexandria, after equipping it for producing and editing the fabricated media content.
Inside the apartment, a number of cameras, computers, editing and photography kit, and a number of fabricated videos were seized.
Legal measures were taken regarding the incident, and Supreme State Security Prosecution continues with investigations.
The Ministry of Interior confirmed that it will continue to address decisively any attempts to create chaos or undermine the country’s stability.
