CAIRO – 6 July 2020: Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli led Monday the Supreme council for Urban Planning and Development’s meeting that included several ministers and experts from the aforementioned council, reported Youm7.

Madbouli discussed the latest decisions made by the government regarding the housing sector such as the temporary shutdown of residential construction in order to restructure the urbanism process inside big cities.

Madbouli discussed the presidential decree that refers lands located in the North Coast under the management of the Authority of New Urban Communities, to turn those lands into a fully urbanized society such as New Al Alameen city in Matrouh governorate.

The minister of housing Asim Gazzar said that partition of lands and individually selling them minimizes the developmental opportunities in North Coast.

Al Gazzar added that the developmental plan in the area includes establishing new cities not necessarily as big as Al Alameen city.

During the meeting, the Supreme Council for Urban Planning and Development approved a decree that considers Al Warraq island as an area subjected to a re-planning process as part of the efforts to curb Unplanned Urbanization and protect the Nile course.

The meeting has also approved a warrant submitted by the council’s technical committee that aims to amend construction and planning requirements in major cities as per the third article of the construction law.
