CAIRO – 26 June 2017: Dubai’s former deputy chief of Police and Public Security Dhahi Khalfan has assumed that the Turkish military base in Qatar aims to protect its regime, saying that its presence could isolate Qatar from Gulf countries even further.

Khalfan claimed that the role of the military base is to enhance the terrorist-designated Muslim Brotherhood’s power. He asserted that projects aiming at fracturing Arab nations were foiled as Qatar’s suspicious role has been ended.

On his Twitter account, Khalfan accused Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of not reacting appropriately towards the failed terrorist attack on Mecca's Grand Mosque, while also immediately supplying aid to Qatar despite the fact that it has not been attacked.

He alleged that Qatari leadership is being aided by Iran against other Gulf countries, and accused western countries of attempting to glorify Qatar’s role in the region by supporting Qatar’s attempts to fracture Arab nations.

Khalfan claimed that Qatar’s plans have been foiled and put to an end, pointing to Trump’s recent statements in support of the embargo.

However, Trump’s official policy in Qatar has been murky, with official statements from the white house often being contradicted by Trump’s own statements on the matter. In the past two weeks the U.S. administration signed a $12 billion arms deal with Qatar for fighter planes.
