CAIRO – 27 June 2020: Libyan terrorist Abdel Rahim el-Mesmary, the mastermind of the 2017 Wahat attack was executed Saturday, according to the state-run TV.

The attack killed 16 policemen and left 13 injured.

The case includes 43 defendants involved in the deadly attack. The primary defendant in the case, Abdel-Rahim Al-Mesmary, who is a Libyan national.

Investigations revealed that the main defendant in the incident was trained and worked under the leadership of the Egyptian terrorist Imad el-Din Ahmed, and participated in the terrorist operation that targeted police officers in Wahat, and kidnapped Captain Mohamed el-Hayes.

Mesmary was trained at camps inside Libya on how to use heavy weapons, manufacture explosives and infiltrate into Egypt to establish a training camp in the desert area in Wahat to act as a nucleus for a terrorist organization.

He was preparing to implement a series of hostilities against Christians and vital facilities in the country.

Mesmary was accused of premediated murder of officers and police personnel, attempted murder, seizing weapons, ammunition and explosives, joining a terrorist group, and an outlawed group that targets armed and police forces and facilities.


What accusations drawn against Mesmary?

Mesmary was hanged to death on Saturday, after he was involved in participating in a criminal agreement intended to commit terror crimes by murdering armed forces and civil police officers; destroying weapons and equipment and targeting public and vital facilities.

He also participated in the premeditated killing of 16 civil police officers and members of Wahat in October 20, 2017.

Mesmary further kidnapped Captain Mohamed el-Hayes during a shootout with police forces in Baharia Oasis (Wahat) as a hostage in order to force authorities to replace him with one of the arrested Takfiris. The Egyptian army and police rescued him in a joint operation later that month.

Al-Mismari participated in the coercive theft of weapons, ammunition, and missions of the civilian police forces raided the terrorist elements camp in the Bahariya Oasis region.
